Pomegranate

General Pomegranate Info

Most cooks wear rubber gloves when handling pomegranates since their juice easily stains your skin and clothing.

Short Term Pomegranate Storage

Due the leathery skin of a pomegranate, you can store them in a dark, cool place, such as a cupboard for up to 2 weeks.

Whole pomegranates can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 months.

Once you de-seed a pomegranate, the seeds can maintain their flavor if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.

Pomegranate Long Term Storage

Pomegranate juice and seeds can be placed in an air tight container and frozen at 0 degrees F for up to 6 months.

Pack whole fruit in a heavy, ziplock bag and store in the freezer; they will keep for 8 months. Defrost before cutting open and juicing or extracting the seeds.

Pomegranate Side Notes

Common varieties of pomegranate trees are: Wonderful (most popular worldwide), Greneda, Sweet, and Angel Red (newer variety).
