Unshelled nuts can be stored in a cool, dry and dark place for several months.
Shelled nuts will keep in an airtight container up to 4 months in the refrigerator.

Freeze shelled nuts in an airtight container at 0 degrees F; they will hold quality and taste for 6 months.

In everyday language, there are many varieties of edible nuts; however, they more exactly fall into the categories of legumes, drupes, seeds and nuts. Peanuts are actually legumes. Commonly eaten drupes are almonds and cashews. Sunflower and pine nuts are actually seeds. Nuts would include acorns, breadnuts, Brazil nuts, beechnuts, chestnuts, hazelnuts, filberts, macadamia, peanuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachio, and walnuts.
